From Essence Fest to Afro Nation: Top July Black Festivals Worldwide
Experience Black Joy: The Best July Festivals for Music and Culture
July is the heart of festival season, and this month brings a powerful lineup of Black-centered celebrations across the globe. From the soulful streets of New Orleans to the sun-soaked coastlines of Portugal, July is packed with opportunities to dance, vibe, and be immersed in culture. Whether you’re looking to get another stamp on your passport or take a quick road trip, there’s plenty of options for everyone.
Top July Picks: Essence Festival is the event that made me fall in love with festivals so it will always have a special place in my heart. There seems to be a lot of controversy about this year’s event but no one could ever make me mad at Essence.
I’ve also attended Ocean City Jazz Festival a few times because it’s just a few minutes from our house. Each year, this festival brings world-renowned and Grammy award-winning performers to coastal North Carolina to raise money for one of America’s few remaining Black beaches.
One festival that looks like an absolute blast is Afro Nation. Partially because I want to visit Portugal, but I’ve also heard rave reviews from fellow Festies. Keep reading for the full list…
