Boost Your Mental Health with Festivals

Festivals Are Therapy: A Conversation with a Fete Fanatic and Licensed Therapist

Festivals are a celebration of culture and community, drawing people from all walks of like together for a good time. Whether it’s a music festival, business conference or food truck rodeo; when the event is centered around Black culture you can expect great food, music, fashion and memories. This is the perfect hub to feel “at home” anywhere in the world, meet new people and build a stronger relationship. Recently, I discussed the ways that festivals can boost mental health with Bersuada Saunders, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Caribbean carnival vet.

Bersuada, The Spice Therapist, and I met at Raleigh’s annual Caribmask Carnival parade and hung out the next day during Jouvert. She was sweet enough to do a phone interview with me after the whirlwind weekend of Carnival. I had a theory that festivals improved mental health, but needed to hear it from a professional to make it real.
