August Festivals that Celebrate Black Culture
From the United Kingdom to Texas: These Festivals are the Best of the Best
August starts the end of the summer and the month is full of festivals that highlight the richness of Black culture. These events provide a platform to showcase the artistic, musical, and historical contributions of Black communities worldwide. Here are some must-attend festivals happening in August that give you a chance to enjoy Black heritage and positive vibes.
Aug 3
The Black Authors Festival was founded to support those that tell our stories authentically and remind people of the power of penning their truth.
Aug 9 – 11
Barrel & Flow is the #1 Brew Fest in America two years in a row, as voted by the readers of USA Today for good reason. The event celebrates Black breweries, artists, speakers and musicians all day.
Aug 16 - 17
This is the area’s longest-running outdoor jazz festival and features some of the biggest names in the international jazz scene along the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront.
Aug 17
Curlfest is headed back to Brooklyn! Join the Curly Girl Collective for the world's largest natural beauty festival to celebrate natural beauty and hair without bounds.

Events take place between August 15 and 18 with the parade and carnival being held on Saturday, August 17. Enjoy Mas bands, concerts and dancing, food, vendors and more.
Aug 17 – 18
Afro Nation is back in Detroit, brining some of Africa and the Caribbean’s best performers for a weekend of music and fun.

There are six events from August 15 -18 with carnival on Saturday, Aug 17. Carnival (the parade and festival) is free for all attendees and there will be art/craft vendors, food and live music.
Aug 19 –21
This year’s event has moved to Huston and will be held in person. The conference features over 150 speakers, a Senior Developer Summit and a chance to interview for your dream job.
Aug 23 – 25
Invest Fest is back with a full lineup of speakers, networking and motivation. This year they’ve also added the Nipsey Hussle Business Grant, a chance to win $100,000 during the pitch completion.

The Black Radio Experience takes place Labor Day weekend and will bring music lovers together to enjoy uber-talented artists including DJ Jazzy Jeff, Marsha Ambrosius and Andra Day.
Aug 31 – Sept 1
The legacy of renowned saxophonist John Coltrane lives on each year with at this festival. Bilal, Gregory Porter, Jesus Molina and more will bless the stage during this year’s festival.
