Roots Picnic in Philadelphia: A Star-Studded Lineup of Grammy Winners and Unforgettable Moments Ahead

Enjoy Andre 3000, Jill Scott, Lil Wayne and More Live at the 2024 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia

The lineup and tickets for the 2024 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia are available now. Iconic band, The Roots, is bringing this two-day festival back to Philadelphia, PA on Saturday and Sunday, June 1st and 2nd. Keep reading to learn all the reasons that this festival is one of the premier events of the summer.

Over 11 Grammy Winners on the Lineup

The Roots, with three Grammys, and Questlove, with an additional three, are bringing some of their trophy-winning colleagues to the Picnic. Other Grammy winners that will grace the stage are Jill Scott, Lil Wayne, Trombone Shorty, Nas, PJ Morton, Babyface, Robert Glasper and 2024 winners Victoria Monet and South African Amapiano singer Tyla.

Fun fact: Quest keeps his Grammy trophies in his bathroom. When I’m not listening to music I’m listening to Questlove Supreme and Co. talk about music and he stated this in an episode. I think it was the interview with Darius Rucker but don’t quote me.

Music for Everyone

The list of performers is extensive, featuring everything from gospel powerhouse Tasha Cobbs Leonard to STL rapper Sexxy Red and a DC Go-Go set featuring the Backyard Band, Scarface and Amerie. Want some jazz? Robert Glasper and Yebba have that covered. And if you missed Mardi Gras like me, you can get your fix when the Big Easy’s own Weezy F. Baby, Trombone Shorty and PJ Morton join the Roots for a New Orleans musical celebration.

… And So Much More

Roots Picnic is not just about amazing performances; it's a weekend for everyone. Alongside the core musical experiences, the Parkside stage will host live podcasts shows from Wallo and Gillie’s “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” and Juan Epstein’s “Juan Ep Is Life”. There will also be immersive experiences ranging from R&B Only & U+ME+RNB to Tonight’s Conversation and World Series of Spades and They Have the Range.

Questlove’s Genius

Questlove, drummer for The Roots, podcast host of Questlove Supreme, and artist curator for the 50 Years of Hip-Hop tour and Grammy special, brings his expertise to this event.  Quest (real name Ahmir Thompson) directed the highly-acclaimed “Summer of Soul” documentary that introduced the masses to the Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969 so he  has an in-depth understanding of what makes a festival a hit.

Andre 3000's Exclusive Performance

Andre 3000, who broke the internet with his 2024 album "New Blue Sun," will be gracing the Roots Picnic stage with a live performance of his flute-only album. Some people were shocked that there were no lyrics on his newest project but it debuted at No. 30 on the Billboard charts. After a successful three-month tour in major cities, Andre 3000 brings his unique musicality to the festival.

Lil Wayne’s Practice for the Super Bowl 2025 Half-time Show

This is a major stretch and wishful thinking but stay with me. Super Bowl LIX will be held in New Orleans next year and I’ve surmised that the NOLA performance at the Picnic is a practice round before taking over the field at the 2025 Super Bowl. A little music nerdery, New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz, Zydeco, blues and bounce music and has influenced every American music genre so who better to grace the half-time stage than some of New Orleans most famous artists?

As I mentioned above, Lil Wayne, Trombone Shorty, and PJ Morton will be doing a tribute to their hometown at the Roots Picnic. Just add Jon Batiste, Juvenile, Mannie Fresh and some No Limit artists and we’re good to go! If it doesn’t happen, don't blame me, but when it does, remember who told you first.

Whether you're a music enthusiast, podcast lover, or seeking immersive experiences, Roots Picnic 2024 promises an unforgettable weekend in the city of brotherly love. Two-day tickets for Roots Picnic start at just $225 so get your tickets now to be part of the ultimate summer music festival experience!
